Tobacco Products Directive

  • The EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) is a set of rules, agreed and implemented across all European Union member states, which specifies how tobacco products can be manufactured, presented and sold.


  • The revised TPD directive was adopted in 2014 and came into force in May  2016.


  • The TPD bans the sale of cigarette packs of less than 20 and hand rolling tobacco pouches of less than 30gr


  • Research conducted by Oxford Economics reveals that this will effectively ban 24% of cigarette products and 71% of hand rolling tobacco purchased by smokers in the UK. A copy of the Oxford Economics Report can be downloaded here
