British American Tobacco is a UK business, with its global headquarters located in the heart of London. In addition, we also have a manufacturing site in Corby and Research and Development sites in Southampton and Cambridge. We employ over 2,000 people in the UK alone, with around 50,000 direct employees across the world.
In 2015, British American Tobacco plc sold 663 billion cigarettes around the world, made in 44 factories in 41 countries. Our portfolio of more than 200 brands in over 200 markets, includes our world-famous Global Drive Brands – Dunhill, Kent, Lucky Strike, Pall Mall and Rothmans – along with many other leading international brands, such as Vogue, Peter Stuyvesant and State Express 555.
We make the cigarettes chosen by around one in eight of the world’s one billion adult consumers and we are market leaders in more than 55 countries. We are proud that we are consistently among the top 10 companies on the London Stock Exchange.
Alongside our traditional tobacco business, we are also at the forefront of developing products that offer adult consumers potentially less risky alternatives to regular cigarettes. We call them Next Generation Products and our portfolio includes Vapour Products such as e-cigarettes and Tobacco Heating Products.
We are committed to the highest standards of corporate conduct, from how we source our tobacco leaf right through to how we market our products to adult consumers.
We were the first tobacco company to be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices in 2002 – and we’ve been included every year since. In addition, in September 2016 we were ranked number one in a good governance index published by the Institute of Directors.
